Gulf Jetski
βThe Gulf-JW Automotive team became a legendary force between 1967 and 1975 with the Ford GT40, Porsche 917 and Mirage competition cars. Gulf achieved victory at the famous Le Mans 24 Hours race in 1968, 1969 and 1975, as well as taking World Championship Sportscar honors.β
Among all the ideas and color combinations I researched, I always dreamed of creating a project in the Gulf color scheme because of their inspiring history. However, finding the right customer willing to embrace this color mix for their car was quite challenging. Fortunately, I found someone with the perfect vehicle who was excited to experiment with it.
The project turned out to be an intense and challenging experience, not just in terms of design but also in management and production. Unlike other vehicles, the jet ski required smaller, intricately scaled, and precisely cut pieces. It took a week to finalize the digital design and another two weeks to apply it. The workshop master who assisted me remarked that it was one of the most difficult jobs he had ever undertaken due to the numerous curves and small pieces involved.
Despite these challenges, the project was a success. While some small pieces began to peel off over time due to water exposure and outdoor storage, the overall design remained intact. To address this, I provided the owner with leftover sticker samples so they could easily replace any pieces as needed.
